      Ruby (chromium doped corundum) is an extremely vivid material. When sapphire (corundum) is doped with chromium and other elements, the material can achieve the same vividness and saturation of ruby, but in shades of orange, magenta, and deeper shades of padparadscha. Although sapphires can be grown in a variety of colors these materials have the perfect combination of saturation, hue, and tone to be classified as "vivid."
