      Colombian color emerald is an extremely vivid and bright gemstone that contains chromium as a dopant (one of the most vivid colors in all of lab gemstones). Colombian color emerald is one of the most expensive gem materials to produced. In order to keep the chromium in solution, the crystals must be grown in very acidic conditions. The autoclaves must be lined with platinum or gold to prevent the acidic solution from eating through the crucibles during growth.
